Awards Place Skyport in the Top 1% of Fixed Base Operators in the Nation
San Marcos, TX (June 6, 2013) – In its first year of operation Redbird Skyport was selected as a Star FBO and an Ace FBO in the FltPlan.com Pilots’ Choice award for aircraft support and service—a rare accomplishment for a newly opened Fixed Base Operator (FBO). The Skyport, located at the San Marcos Regional Airport (KHYI), is best known for its role as a flight training laboratory but it is quickly becoming the preferred FBO for pilots and passengers needing hassle free access to Austin and San Antonio. “We are incredibly honored to receive these awards, especially considering that this is only our first year” said John Koenreich, General Manager of the Skyport FBO.
Less than one percent of the 3,000 plus FBOs in the United States receive this level of national recognition. Skyport was the only FBO in the central Texas region to receive the Star FBO award. “It is a testament to the caliber and dedication of our entire team” said Koenreich. “They are the best I’ve seen in 20 years in the industry.”
Both the Star FBO and Ace FBO awards use votes submitted by FltPlan.com users, and airport traffic information to rank FBOs across the country. Additionally, the Star FBO award factors in the amount of competition on the field to highlight businesses that deliver exceptional service and value to aircraft operators.
In addition to the services aircraft operators expect from a world-class FBO, Skyport offers a full concierge to help customers before, during, and after their flight. Skyport welcomes hundreds of visitors attending internationally known events such as the Formula 1 US Grand Prix, South by South West, and Austin City Limits Music Festival. Skyport also hosts a range of general aviation events, most notably the MIGRATION Flight Training Industry and Design Conference held yearly in October.
With the Star FBO and Ace FBO awards in hand, Koenreich is already looking forward to this year’s voting. “From a biplane fly-in to 40 jets landing in a row for F1, there is always something new and interesting happening at Skyport” said Koenreich. “Awards that are based on the votes of our customers really show that service and value are the keys to our competitive advantage. We didn’t get votes just because we have a nice facility; we earned each vote by exceeding our customers’ expectations every day.”
