Flight School for Pilot Training

Flight School: Your Path To The Cockpit

Starting flight school is exciting. You are about to embark on a unique adventure; one that allows you a freedom and perspective unlike any other. Taking to the sky as the Pilot In Command of an airplane is a truly special experience that few people get the chance to know. Your journey to the cockpit will challenge you and require your commitment, but the best rewards always require effort.

Skyport was designed and built from the ground up to give you a better way to achieve your goals.

Flight School- Redesigned

The Flight School at Redbird Skyport delivers a unique, high-quality training experience that equips you with the strongest possible foundation of skills no matter where your flying adventures lead. Skyport is not like other flight schools. We don’t use a “one-size-fits-all” curriculum, worn out equipment, or instructors just building time for the next job. Skyport is a new kind of flight school designed to give you the best possible experience by using:

  • A proficiency-based curriculum that is standardized, but adaptive to your learning style.
  • New aircraft, cutting-edge training tools, and full-motion simulation.
  • Intensive Instructor training and compensation that rewards quality over quantity.

We provide flight training for a wide range of goals and needs. Want to fly yourself for fun or personal travel? Our Private Pilot Course is perfect for you. Are you looking to start a career in aviation? The Pro Pilot Course will set your career on the right track. Already a pilot, but want to add that Instrument Rating? Our Instrument Rating Course will give you the best preparation for real-world IFR flying. Request more information now!

A Different Approach

The Skyport training method – called Migration – is a “clean sheet” design focused on real world outcomes and hard data. With this innovative approach to flight training we consistently produce safe, proficient pilots at a fraction of the average time and cost. The proof is in the numbers:

Private Pilot Training

  • Average Cost: $15,000
  • Skyport Cost: $11,500
  • Average Flight Hours: 70
  • Skyport Flight Hours: 36
  • Average Weeks: 26
  • Skyport Weeks: 4
  • Average First Time Pass Rate: 80%
  • Skyport First Time Pass Rate: 97%

Choosing The Right Flight School Matters

There are lots of flight schools out there and it can be hard to tell the good from the not so good, but choosing the right one is key to your success. Your flight school will play a critical role not only in your training but also in your future as a rated pilot. Why does the school matter so much? It comes down to safety and cost.

Don’t waste your time and money getting poor training. Even if you can’t train with us, we can help you find a good flight school in your area.

Flight School Safety:

  1. Flying is a basically safe activity, made risky by a lack of quality training.
  2. 70% of private airplane accidents are caused by the pilot.*
  3. The FAA, NTSB, and major industry groups agree – quality training is the key to safety.
  4. What you learn first creates a strong, almost unshakable, impression (Primacy Principle).
  5. Some flight schools are certified by the FAA, some are not.

Flight School Cost:

  1. 80% of Student Pilots never finish flight school.**
  2. Most flight schools quote prices and timelines based on FAA Minimums (40 flight hours).
  3. Most people take 70 or 80 flight hours to finish flight school.**
  4. Very few flight schools offer fixed price courses.
  5. The quality of your flight school directly impacts your cost and time.

Building A Better Flight School

We want you to be successful and safe; in fact it’s our primary mission as an industry supported flight school laboratory. We are striving to make all flight schools safer, efficient, and more transparent for you. The Skyport mission is both simple in design and wide in scope:

“We have committed to building an R&D facility in the form of a working, for profit, flight school at an airport in central Texas. The work product of that institution will be available to and benefit everyone in the industry. As a step toward fixing the problems with flight training, it’s a drop in the bucket, but it’s a start.”
-Jerry Gregoire, Founder Redbird Skyport

All aspects of this project are open for industry review and many companies have partnered with us to test their products and ideas. The idea for an R&D laboratory came from the need for quantifiable data regarding the use of simulation in general aviation training. We have always believed that new technologies and methods could be a catalyst for improvements in the way pilots are trained and we needed a platform to test our ideas. Skyport was built on this idea and need, with one goal in mind – to redefine the industry and guarantee the future of General Aviation.
